Jela’s Phat Phibs
Well, we’ve decided to take our extensive fat frog collection on the road and enter the world of the traveling reptile expo. Over the past several weeks, we have come to the realization that as much as we’d like to keep all of the frogs in our Pyxie Project, when the study is over, we’ll HAVE to offer some of them up for sale. It will just be too many big mouths to feed on a daily basis. The Pyxie Project still rolls on but as of right now, we have enough surplus stock to go ahead and start vending at shows. Our market scheme is the world’s largest and fattest frogs. We are currently offering up a very nice selection of Pyxies, Surinams, various PacMan morphs and several of the larger toad species.

The Day Has Finally Come!!! There’s a Whole Lot of Pyxie Up In Here!!
Today we received our shipment of (30) true Giant Pyxies from The Frog Ranch as well as our (3) Ceratophrys aurita which were bred for the first time in the USA by Kim. Now it’s time to get down to business and get this Pyxie Project crack-a-lackin’!!! We have spent the better part of today measuring, weighing, photographing and then housing these guys into their enclosures. Kim really does breed a beautiful Pyxie. It is amazing all of the vivid coloration and sharp detail that these little boogers have.

Dinner Is Served: Blaptica dubia Roach Colony
When met with the task of housing 40 of the worlds largest frogs, one must ensure that they have a consistent source of food. Taking that into consideration, we also wanted to provide items of nutrition so that every specimen can achieve optimal growth and health. Enter Blaptica dubia. Dubia’s are the newest thing in the feeder insect world. They are a meaty roach with a soft body which contain a much higher ratio of protein to indigestible chitin compared to crickets. They also don’t make noise nor do their enclosure’s smell like their insect counterparts.

Pyxie Project Beginning
The first phase of this project consisted of preparing 27 aquariums to ultimately house 40 larger frog species. Thirty of which (Giant African Bullfrog) will be extensively covered in this photo journal.

Our Objective
We created this blog to document our study of the Pyxicephalus adspersus (Giant African Bullfrog). We will be receiving a shipment of 30 Pyxie’s early-mid September, so right now we are in the prep stage. Big time! We have started taking pictures of the process, and will continue to do so throughout this journey. Over the next two years we hope to provide insight on the species growth, sexing, diet and overall husbandry techniques that we have applied. This blog will serve more so as a photo journal providing updates and information.
